Significant Milestones in Oil Production Technology

The technology in the production oil has not been left behind in advancing as you will read more here. Since oil is an essential commodity for the survival of man, a look into the changes in technology in production is a good idea. In the past, in Ancient Mesopotamia bitumen a hardened substance was used in ship construction and holding jewelry together. The Kings of Egypt used bitumen for the construction of the famous pyramids. These minerals which oozed to the surface freely requiring no extraction equipment led to the discovery of oil.

The first method used to extract oil was by digging up the soil to reach the oil. The people living in this period used oil to heal diseases, light their lamps and heat their houses. Following the lack of valuable knowledge about oil as read in this site, there many false assumptions about oil fields at the time.

The next advancement in technology came in form of spring poles. This apparatus which was connected to a tree was made popular by the Ruffner brothers with the intention of reaching more salt deeper in the earth. The importance of oil was still not known to people at this time even though they knew it was a multipurpose commodity. With the introduction of steam to power ,the spring pole salt extraction proceeded at higher rates. A Yale chemist Benjamin Silliman discovered more about how oil could be converted into kerosene that is used for lighting lamps. After the discovery by Benjamin, there was more interest in this product and commercial extraction could be seen as you’ll see here.

As you learn more about how the demand for oil surged in this website. The number of oil deposits discovered in the earth increased. During the drilling process there were sediments that obstructed extraction of oil and the need for better machinery came up. Consequently, a method called rotary drilling emerged whose head could move past the hard sediment with great ease. One event that marked how effectiveness of the rotary drill in the process of oil extraction was observed in Texas when a rig struck a rock resulting into a lot of oil flowing to the surface. As the world war 1 was set to begin, the demand for this product increased resulting in dire need for improved equipment following strong competition among nations. The most important aspect of the rotary drilling method was to extract oil found very deep into the earth.

Right now the world still uses the rotary drill for oil extraction. However, they are advanced technologically as they are fitted with digital tracking devices, touchpads and video control to monitor and access the rigs from a fur. Besides that, the rigs are more sophisticated. For example ,as you see here is that one rig can drill multiple oil wells and even move on their own.
